Spring & Summer Lawn Care
SPRING
- Remove the thatch (matted dead grass) from all lawn areas.
- Aerate the lawn.
- The addition of a fertilizer high in Nitrogen should be done in late April to early May.
- Mow your lawn no shorter than 2 inches.
SUMMER
- A second application of a "Weed'n'Feed" type fertilizer can be done in mid Summer.
- f you want a green lawn all Summer, you will have to keep it well watered and hot, dry weather. Watering should be done in the early morning, as letting water
lie overnight may give fungus a breading ground.
- TIP
Having trouble telling how much water your lawn or planting beds
are actually getting? Place a clear plastic container of the ground in the area you are watering. Use an ordinary ruler to measure the amount of water in the cup, or you can use a waterproof marker to place lines 1
inch apart on the outside of the container. This way you can easily tell when your lawn and plants have had the proper amount of water. The amount will usually be an inch or two, depending on
the season, the type of plants and whether or not they are newly planted.
